Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser avoids is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
